What's next & how to support Beakuency Zine Project!

The vol. 1: Meet Bird People in Columbia County! has been completed, and 250 copies have been distributed through libraries and local businesses! Now I am working on the vol. 2: Meet Bird-friendly Farms in Hudson Valley! This time it is more than only a zine: a community-engaged art project developed with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Columbia and Greene Counties, offering hands-on workshops in addition to a free art zine to highlight local agricultural conservation and explore coexistence and diversity. More information will be posted on this website soon.

I have applied to a grant hoping to cover the cost of printing (this time we'll get 1,000 copies!) But there are still many expenses that needs to be covered. I will be publishing what exactly they are and will run a fundraiser / art sale to at one point in 2026. It would be wonderful if I don't have to keep doing all this out of pocket and could even partially cover my time.

If you'd like to personally support this project (thank you!), you can do so by becoming a paid subscriber on Beakuency Substack, or a purchasing note cards and art prints from my Etsy shop. Your shopping for a $5 bird greeting card will make a difference for me!

You are indispensable, not because you're special or better than others, but because you're here, now

On October 26, 2025, I gave a presentation about the Beakuency art zine project at the North Chatham Free Library. I discussed the project, and explored the power of ‘folk’, the thread that has connected citizen science, the Japanese Mingei folk art movement, and my own work as an artist. + Star Trek.
