WIND TRAVELERS
(2018)
Community collaborative mural at Freshkills Park, Staten Island, NY

Commissioned by the Freshkills Park for Discovery Day (June 3, 2018) Funded by RPGA Studio, Inc. and Projectivity Group
Design Concept
When I see a small seed flying on the wind with its leafy wing, or fluffy parachute, I enjoy imagining it to be a tiny but brave individual travelling far from his home. I find wind dispersal of seeds to be a beautiful strategy that trees take; it is designed for seeds to not compete with each other but to co-exist, by taking a long journey and going with the flow. This is the motif of “Wind Travelers”, a wind-themed mural that visualizes joy and prosperity of our life.
This mural is a collaborative art project. On the Discovery Day, participants “flew a kite” - painted kites to complete the mural design.
